In Mozambique, a new government measure has enabled around 300 officers of the Mozambican Republic Police (PRM) to receive specialised training in the certification of simple notarial acts. This initiative, which came into force in August, aims to simplify, and make free of charge, certain notarial services for the public, directly through police stations.

With this training, PRM members are now authorised to carry out simple certification of signatures on applications and to authenticate photocopies of identification documents. This service is available at all police stations in the country, marking a significant step towards easier access to essential notarial services.

In addition to PRM officers, the measure also extends to practising lawyers, who can now handle a variety of notarial acts. These include issuing powers of attorney for legal proceedings, administering property, certifying minutes of meetings of associations, foundations and commercial companies, and formalising preliminary contracts and lease agreements.

To guarantee the reliability and integrity of this service, only junior PRM officers with at least five years of experience and secretarial duties, duly authorised by the commander of the sub-unit and after receiving specific training in the field of Registries and Notaries, are qualified to carry out these notarial acts.

This initiative reflects the Mozambican Government's commitment to cutting red tape and bringing notarial services closer to the public, contributing to administrative efficiency and to strengthening the rule of law in the country.
