Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique has a workforce of 753 people, employees who work day after day to keep its fleet of seven aircraft operational. However, the South African company Fly Modern Ark, which currently manages LAM, expects this number to be adjusted. According to plans in progress, optimising human resources could mean some employees leaving.

The winds of change have blown over the horizon of the Mozambican state carrier, opening the way to a new era of opportunities. Among the milestones of this new phase are the reactivation of the air link between Maputo and Lisbon and the opening of new travel horizons, with destinations as distant and diverse as Brazil, India, Dubai and China. The Maputo-Portugal route will be the starting point of this adventure, to be followed by other international destinations such as São Paulo, Guangzhou, Mumbai and Dubai.

Fly Modern Ark, from South Africa, took the reins of LAM in April, bringing with it a renewed vision and a solid strategy for the recovery of the Mozambican carrier. One of the pillars of this ambitious plan is the expansion of the fleet, a fundamental step towards winning the planned new destinations.

Finally, LAM intends to strengthen its presence in two strategic points of Mozambique - the city of Beira, in the centre of the country, and Nampula, in the north. Both cities are considered essential 'hubs' for the country's connectivity and could play a crucial role in the expansion of LAM's operations. In this new scenario, Maputo will no longer be the airline's only centre of operations.

The company's managers rule out the possibility of increasing debt to fund the fleet expansion. Instead, Fly Modern Ark and other partners will share the profits generated by the increased activity, thus balancing the company's finances.
