Mozambique is preparing to take on, on 14 July, in Maputo, the rotating presidency of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (AP-CPLP), at a ceremony that will take place during the organisation’s 14th meeting. The two-year mandate will be guided by a clear agenda: to promote peace and inclusion within the Lusophone community.

The Mozambican capital will receive, on 14 and 15 July, parliament speakers and high-level representatives of the CPLP member states, at a meeting that comes at a politically significant moment for the host country.

“What we carry as our banner is the peace and inclusion that our country has always upheld. We know we are at a moment when an inclusive national dialogue is under way [after the post-election unrest] and we believe that this culture of dialogue that we will convey to other peoples is a banner that is producing the necessary results”, said Feliz Silva, spokesperson for the standing committee of the Mozambican parliament.

Mozambique’s selection to lead the AP-CPLP follows the presidency of Equatorial Guinea, whose Senate, chaired by Teresa Efua Asangono, led the proceedings at the 13th ordinary session, also held in Maputo, in July 2024, after the country claimed logistical difficulties in hosting the event.

With this leadership, Maputo aims to project an image of stability and diplomatic responsibility, reinforcing the role of parliaments in deepening political and social cooperation among the Lusophone countries.
