Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) is stepping up efforts to ensure that several border posts in Tete province, in the centre of the country, no longer depend on electricity supplied by neighbouring nations such as Zimbabwe and Malawi.

According to Sílvio Nurmomad, EDM's director of Electrification and Projects, the plan includes the border posts of Cuchamano, in Changara district, currently supplied by Zimbabwe, and those of Calómué and Lisulo, in Angónia district, which receive power from Malawi.

In addition, there are other border localities that consume electricity from abroad, including Biribiri and Tsangano, also supplied by Malawi, and Cassacatiza, Chifunde and Zumbo, which depend on Zambia's grid.

“Expanding the national grid to these areas is an EDM priority, but there are challenges that require adaptations along the way,” explained Nurmomad, quoted by the Mozambique News Agency (AIM). The project is part of a broader plan by the state-owned company to improve electricity supply in Tete and strengthen the country's energy infrastructure.
