The province of Cabo Delgado still sees its economic activities constrained by the constant terrorist attacks. However, the French ambassador to Mozambique points to significant progress in the region, especially with regard to the return of local communities to their places of origin.

Yann Pradeau, French ambassador to Mozambique, made reference to the prevailing situation in the north of the country. The diplomat evoked the reality of the northern Mozambican province, endowed with vast natural resources, which has been facing the threat of terrorism since October 2017.

According to the ambassador, the situation in Cabo Delgado has been challenging. However, Pradeau notes that progress is being made in the province. This progress is the result of the considerable effort of the State, through its security forces – the SAMIM forces and the Rwandan armed forces. This security arrangement has gradually made it possible to restore a safer environment in Cabo Delgado. These statements come at a time when there are doubts about the return of the French oil company Total, which withdrew from the gas project following the attack on the district of Palma in 2021.

The French diplomat also reinforced the continuation of efforts to improve the situation in Cabo Delgado. Pradeau spoke during a ceremony marking the end of a training course on international human rights in conflict zones, for 50 individuals. The event was also an opportunity for France to pay tribute to the women's magazine MANAS, in recognition of its contribution to defending the rights of women and girls in Cabo Delgado
