My journey began when I won a scholarship to the USA. At the time, I already dreamed of being an actor, and it was there that this passion intensified. That was where I ended up discovering the world of film production and direction. I started by making a few comedy videos, but I never posted them on social media; only a few friends saw them, because the content was restricted. At a certain point, I returned to Mozambique, my homeland, and applied for another scholarship, this time to India. I got the scholarship and went there to study Computer Engineering, the field in which I graduated. By then I was already making a few dance videos, but still no acting or parodies. I ended up taking part in some dance competitions in India.
I returned to Mozambique in 2020, right after the pandemic broke out, a time when we were following the measures and rules to prevent the coronavirus and people were spending more time at home in social isolation and, as a consequence, also spending more time on the internet. At one point, I saw a video of an interview on social media and had the idea of recreating the video in my own way. I posted it on my profile and the video went viral. I had positive comments from many people who liked my work, and those same people motivated me to carry on doing it, and to this day I continue to create this kind of video. “He is a good actor” or “the facial expressions he makes, it's as if he were the author of the video” were some of the comments that motivated me to continue; it made me feel fulfilled to see that many people were enjoying my work and that I could draw smiles from the public. Some people say my videos help them out of depression and that they are like therapy, which captivates me immensely. I consider my work fun and inspiring.
The best ideas for comedy come from the everyday lives of Mozambican citizens and also from the funny interviews that happen on television. There is no formula for winning laughs from people, but I think they identify with and love my way of being and performing.
The pandemic had a big impact on my day-to-day life, as it did on that of other content creators. With people always at home, they shared my videos a lot, and they went viral quite often, and the situation helped to promote the other multimedia services I provide. Today we are in a digital age, and it is very easy to promote our talents and our art, which has a big impact on this sector, expanding it on a large scale.
In my field, I consider Txiobullet and Maxh to be the great references at national level. Internationally, I would like to collaborate with Will Smith. In the future I intend to take a course in acting and film in the United States, so as to contribute to the Mozambican film industry.
