Mozambican cuisine was in the spotlight this weekend, 26 and 27 July, in the city of Coimbra, Portugal, with the participation of chef Sara Agnes in the African Women’s Fair, part of the Lusophone Fair. The event took place in Praça da Lusofonia, in Parque Verde do Mondego, and brought together representatives of the Portuguese-speaking African countries in a celebration of culture, identity and resistance.
Mozambique was represented with a food stall serving typical dishes, desserts and traditional drinks, allowing the Portuguese public and the African diaspora to rediscover the country’s authentic flavours. Sara Agnes’s participation reaffirmed the value of Mozambican cuisine as a living cultural expression and a link between continents.
The fair also featured moments of dance, music and art and the sale of handicrafts, in an atmosphere of multicultural celebration. The event marked the close of this year’s African fairs in Portugal, paying tribute to the fundamental role of African women in preserving traditions and strengthening ties between Africa and its diaspora.
As well as promoting the diversity of African flavours, the fair also played an educational and awareness-raising role, bringing communities closer, sharing stories and valuing the contribution of African women in migrant contexts. Mozambique’s presence, through Sara Agnes’s cooking, left a mark of authenticity, pride and belonging.
