Did you know there is a Mozambican start-up creating modern, affordable glasses?
The opportunity arose from the fact that Celso Ferreira, the brand's founder, noticed that our society lacks affordable solutions to help people with vision problems. Because of the low income of a large part of our population, he decided to create a product that would fill this gap and contribute to improving the lives of Mozambican citizens. Thus Zambezi Eyewer came into being, a 100% national start-up that produces sandalwood spectacle frames, ready to take prescription or sun-protection lenses. It is a solution different from what the market offers, with a modern and appealing design and a comfortable feel on the skin of those who wear them.
Celso Ferreira is a 29-year-old young Mozambican who has vitiligo, a condition characterised by the loss of skin colour and which often creates complexes in those who have it. It was this condition, and his encounter with his inner voice, that encouraged Celso to create the brand and share with society the feeling that life is above appearances, that self-acceptance is fundamental, and that our individual limitations or characteristics should not create barriers, prevent us from taking steps into the world of entrepreneurship or impose limits on the creative process.
Zambezi Eyewer, Celso's start-up, believes that, before developing, creating or starting something, one must discover a uniqueness, an essence, and that the clearer one is about the path to follow, the better the choices and decisions will be for becoming exclusive and unique. For the future, it aims to improve its efficiency, provide more personalised service and form smart partnerships, associating the brand with quality products and innovative, creative ideas and combining profit-making interests with social responsibility. Finally, it aims to become a leading Mozambican company. Zambezi Eyewer intends to expand and evolve on every level.
