The Indian mining company Vulcan has begun a new cycle of technical and vocational training aimed at 500 young people from urban neighbourhoods and rural communities in the district of Moatize, in Tete province. The programme, with an investment of more than 24 million meticais, aims not only at qualification but also at strengthening the foundations of sustainable economic and social development in the areas where the company operates.

According to the newspaper Rigor, this initiative reaffirms Vulcan’s commitment to productive inclusion, promoting real job opportunities and practical skills training.

During the official launch ceremony, held in Moatize, the governor of Tete province, Domingos Viola, highlighted the transformative potential of vocational training in the lives of local communities:

“We renew our recognition to Vulcan for its contribution to the training of these young people. We believe that, by the end of the programme, many families will have better lives, as the skills acquired will allow them to generate income through entrepreneurship and to enter the labour market.”

The recruitment and selection process was conducted by a multisectoral technical committee, which included representatives of the District Government, the Moatize Municipal Council and IFPELAC, as well as community and youth leaders. This model was intended to ensure transparency and inclusion, essential pillars for the project’s legitimacy.

In the words of Pedro Muendane, Vulcan’s representative, the idea was underlined that education remains the most solid engine of progress:

“More than the 24 million meticais invested, what counts is the final product: young people prepared for the country’s challenges, able to make a difference in their communities.”

Since 2023, Vulcan has already trained more than 1,750 young people in various programmes, in a continuing effort to empower young people with practical skills.

The implementation of this new phase will be in the hands of IFPELAC, Vulcan’s strategic partner, covering training in technical areas such as Industrial Maintenance Mechanics and Electricity, Electrical Installation, Civil Metalwork, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Plumbing and IT, among others.
