Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) announced on Monday the immediate suspension of flights between Maputo and Lisbon, effective from 19 February.
The decision is part of the company's restructuring strategy, which aims to optimise and consolidate operations, in line with the governance plan set for the new management's first 100 days.
As part of this process, LAM is also considering suspending other loss-making routes, in an attempt to achieve financial sustainability and improve the quality of its services. The interruption of the link between the two capitals will affect both passengers and the carrier's operational dynamics.
To minimise the impact, the company assures that the roughly 1,080 passengers who have already bought tickets for this route will be properly assisted, with alternative travel arrangements. In addition, anyone who cannot use the service because of the suspension will be entitled to a refund of the amount paid.
LAM stresses that this measure forms part of a broader effort to make its management more efficient and sustainable, ensuring the continuity of its operation and improvement of the services provided.
