The Bank of Mozambique Museum has been inaugurated, an urban landmark whose purpose is to perpetuate and enhance the institutional memory of Mozambique's monetary authority, in the words of its governor.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Governor Rogério Zandamela said that creating the museum was a wide-ranging task, involving in-depth research, acquisition of information and sharing of knowledge with national and international bodies. The endeavour culminated in the compilation of documents, the collection of images and the acquisition of objects that trace the historical course of the banking institution's operations.
The museum's collection is diverse and significant, bringing together every form of currency that has ever circulated in Mozambique since the colonial era. In addition, the collection is enriched with works of art by various artists, with an honourable mention for some creations by the renowned Mozambican visual artist Malangatana.
According to Rogério Zandamela, the museum houses five thematic zones that offer a historical, technical-scientific and artistic perspective of our nation.
This festive day, on which the Bank of Mozambique Museum was inaugurated, coincides with the celebration of the institution's forty-eighth anniversary.
