Exports of Mozambican eucalyptus to Europe have reached new heights. In the period from March 2022 to the end of the first quarter of 2023, the country marked a significant increase in its export capacity, accounting for the shipment of more than 100,000 tonnes of eucalyptus poles and their derivatives to the European market.
This sizeable volume of exports is unprecedented in the country's recent history, as it sets a record since independence in 1975. This great achievement was largely driven by Manica province, which stood out by securing a considerable share of the exports, accounting for more than 85% of the total volume.
Francisca Tomás, Governor of Manica province, recently stressed the relevance of Europe as the primary destination for Mozambican eucalyptus exports. Although she did not go into specific details or present exact figures, her statement reinforces the strategic importance of this market for the Mozambican economy.
Francisca Tomás shared these observations at a technical forestry meeting, an event that brought together experts from various parts of the country. This forum was attended by technicians from the provinces of Tete, Zambézia, Sofala and Niassa, in a joint effort to discuss and address matters of interest in the forestry area.
These developments mark an important advance for Mozambique's forestry industry, reflecting the country's continued commitment to making the most of its natural resources, while strengthening its position in the international market for forest products.
