According to the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), voter registration in Mozambique, which ran from 20 April to 3 June, recorded a total of 8,387,583 voters, a figure below the initial expectation of 10 million. The regions with the highest turnout were the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Gaza and Manica.

The state body also clarifies that a process of reviewing the data at polling stations is under way. Regina Matsinhe, spokesperson for STAE, stresses the importance of this step: “If a citizen finds an error in their personal data on the voter card, they are given the opportunity to request its correction at the polling stations." The National Elections Commission (CNE) said that the number of registered voters is sufficient for credible elections to be held.

Recalling the 2018 municipal elections, Frelimo triumphed in 44 of the 53 municipalities. RENAMO won eight municipalities, while MDM secured the lead in the city of Beira.
