Fuel prices in Mozambique may fluctuate in the coming days as a result of changes on the international scene. According to information released by the Government through Moisés Paulino, national director of hydrocarbons and fuels at the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, on 19 April a review will be carried out of the decree establishing the fuel price structure in the country. This review could lead to price variations on the market, calling into question the effectiveness of the containment measures planned for the coming days.

The main aim of the measure is to ensure that the decline in oil production on the global market does not negatively affect supply and demand within the national territory. A source at the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy confirmed the information, assuring that more details on the matter will be released shortly.

In this context, Moisés Paulino appealed to Mozambican consumers to manage their fuel consumption cautiously, in view of the decrease in oil production on the international scene.

In addition, the national director of hydrocarbons and fuels mentioned that positions have been aligned with the oil companies in the country. One of the matters addressed during the negotiations is the debt the Government owes these entities. The State's accumulated debt to the oil companies since mid-2021 amounts to 400 million US dollars, which has been a cause for concern and discussion between the parties involved.
