Mozambique's President seeks to strengthen economic ties with the Czech Republic

Mozambique's President, Filipe Nyusi, highlighted his country's wish to broaden economic links with the Czech Republic, in a statement made on Tuesday, 8 August. The Mozambican leader stressed his country's potential in terms of mineral resources and climate conditions favourable to agricultural production.

Nyusi also expressed his intention to attract more Czech investment to Mozambique, namely in the areas of energy, industry and the development of transport infrastructure. He emphasised the possibilities Mozambique can offer Czech companies, including in sectors such as defence, health and renewable energy, and expressed the hope that such investments will help stimulate the economy and foster development.

Cooperation between the two countries could also extend to the fight against terrorism. Mozambique, which has been plagued by terrorist attacks in its northern region since 2017, could benefit from technological and military assistance from the Czech Republic.

President Nyusi was on an official working visit to the Czech Republic on 7 and 8 August, at the invitation of his counterpart, Petr Pavel. The visit aimed not only to strengthen the existing relations of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two nations, but also to promote closer collaboration in strategic areas such as energy, mineral resources and the oil and gas sector.

This initiative underlines Mozambique's commitment to broadening its economic horizons and strengthening its position on the international stage, seeking strategic partnerships that can contribute to the country's sustainable growth.
