The President of the Republic of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, honoured a total of 724 national citizens this morning, in an official ceremony forming part of the celebrations of Mozambique Armed Defence Forces (FADM) Day, in Maputo. The distinction, according to a statement released by the Presidency of the Republic, aims to recognise "extraordinary achievements", as well as the selfless work, commitment and dedication to the national cause of those honoured.

The decorations, awarded in the form of nine different orders and medals, cover a wide representation of sectors and defining phases of Mozambican history. Among them, the Samora Moisés Machel Order — one of the country’s highest distinctions — and the Friendship and Peace Order stand out. Medals for Arts and Letters, Military Merit, the Police, Agriculture and Livestock, Sport and Labour were also awarded, as well as the Veteran of Mozambique’s Liberation Struggle medal.

According to the official statement, these honours cover citizens who stood out “from the very beginnings of our National Liberation Struggle, the winning of National Independence and the development of the country”, reflecting the State’s recognition of the outstanding and lasting contribution of these figures to consolidating the nation.

The solemn decoration ceremony took place during the celebrations of the start of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, a symbolic date that marks the Armed Forces’ historic commitment to Mozambique’s sovereignty and progress.
