The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, presided on Monday over the inauguration of the Water Supply System in the city of Pemba, in the province of Cabo Delgado. The infrastructure, rehabilitated and expanded under the Institutional Support Programme for Urban Water Supply (WASIS II), represents a significant step towards improving access to drinking water in the region.
This supply system is the second-largest project of its kind inaugurated by President Nyusi, the first having been delivered in 2019 in Maputo province. The new system in Pemba aims to meet the city's growing demand for water, especially in a context of urban expansion and climate challenges.
The event included a simultaneous ceremony in every province of the country, where the respective Secretaries of State and Governors repeated the act of inauguration, underlining the importance of this project for sustainable development and for improving living conditions in urban areas.
Later the same day, President Nyusi took part in the graduation ceremony for final-year students of Lúrio University, held in the Maringanha neighbourhood of Pemba, as part of the celebrations of another anniversary of this academic institution.
