The governments of Portugal and Mozambique have established a cooperation agreement with the aim of preserving and enhancing a historical and cultural heritage site of great importance: the Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Baluarte. This partnership, in addition to strengthening ties between the Portuguese-speaking nations, fosters local tourism and cultural development.
In this context, the project includes restoration and conservation work on the chapel, as well as the implementation of the infrastructure and equipment needed to ensure visitor access and safety. It also includes training for Mozambican technicians and professionals, who will be in charge of the monument's long-term maintenance and management.
The Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Baluarte is a unique testimony to the Portuguese presence in the Indian Ocean and a historic landmark of Portuguese overseas expansion. The restoration project aims to perpetuate the history and memory of this emblematic building, which remains a tourist attraction and a symbol of unity between Portugal and Mozambique.
