Last Monday, the fraternal relations between Portugal and Mozambique were consolidated with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding focused on labour mobility. This understanding seeks to strengthen the connections between Portuguese companies and Mozambican citizens who wish to find work opportunities in Portugal. The ceremony was attended by Portugal's Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, and her Mozambican counterpart, Margarida Adamugy Talapa.
The primary aim of this understanding is to facilitate the identification of job opportunities in Portugal, as well as to promote the integration and defence of the rights of Mozambican workers who settle in Portuguese territory.
The signed document signals reinforced collaboration between the public employment services of both countries, proposing the creation of a working group dedicated to coordinating and sharing relevant information in the field of labour mobility.
In addition to this significant step, a further understanding was also concluded in the context of Development Cooperation, marking a mutual determination to strengthen cooperative ties on various fronts, including social security, labour relations and working conditions.
This pact represents the foundation for the emerging Cooperation Programme running until 2026, which is expected to be formalised during the 6th Portugal-Mozambique Summit. In this context, Portugal undertakes to increase investment in vocational training in Mozambique, underlining a commitment to continuous development and mutual benefit for both nations.
This initiative stands out as a fundamental step in promoting a closer and more fruitful relationship between Portugal and Mozambique, strengthening ties and creating advantageous opportunities for the citizens of both countries.
