Last week, the President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, stressed the urgency of vaccinating the country's young people.
Having recorded a year without new cases of wild poliovirus, the country has been successful in containing this devastating disease. Mozambique is now preparing to launch the eighth round of immunisation against this scourge. The initiative, which will run for four days, has as its main purpose the consolidation of the public health gains achieved to date.
The call to parents and guardians is to act immediately, without putting it off until the last day. Delay can lead to difficulties and unnecessary expense, since the vaccination phase is strictly limited to four days. The campaign is expected to protect approximately twenty million young people aged between zero and fifteen against the disease, covering the whole country.
The Mozambican leader urged the media to cooperate in fostering constructive dialogue aimed at informing and raising awareness among the Mozambican population about the importance of this immunisation procedure. Nyusi made these remarks in Marracuene, Maputo province, on the occasion of the inauguration of a new water supply system in Pussulane.
