The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) have arrested six young men, aged between 20 and 30, for their involvement in a robbery at a warehouse selling basic necessities in the city of Nampula. The group, which was part of a larger gang of 13 people, managed to steal a sum of one million, two hundred and ninety thousand meticais.

The robbery took place in the Faina area, where the criminals, armed with blunt instruments, overpowered the warehouse guards and vandalised the safe, seizing the money. During the investigation, the police recovered several items bought with the stolen money, including plasma televisions, mattresses, motorbikes and cement, but only thirty thousand five hundred meticais of the stolen amount were recovered.

One of those arrested, aged 25, identified as the gang's leader and a former employee of the warehouse, confessed to the crime. He revealed that he had been dismissed from the company because of suspicions of dubious conduct and had taken part in the robbery. According to his account, after dividing up the stolen money, he himself was the victim of a robbery by a motorbike taxi driver, losing the 60 thousand meticais allotted to him.

This case illustrates the complexity and the challenges faced by the PRM in combating urban crime in Mozambique. The arrest of these individuals is an important step in the fight against organised crime and in guaranteeing public safety.
