Mozambique has been congratulated by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on its progress in the tourism sector, following the launch of the e-Visa electronic visa system platform. The agency's regional director for Africa, Elcia Grandcourt, highlighted the potential of the e-Visa to reposition Mozambican tourism on the world stage, attracting a greater number of tourists to the country.

Grandcourt's statements were made on Monday, 8 May, in Durban, South Africa, during the opening ceremony of the prestigious Africa's Travel Indaba - 2023 edition (Indaba-2023). The director stressed the importance of discussion on the development of the tourism sector globally and reaffirmed the UNWTO's commitment to supporting Mozambique in this matter.

Mozambique's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula, took the opportunity to express the country's commitment to facilitating the process of tourists' entry, discussing all aspects relating to this subject. Materula revealed that she would hold a meeting on Tuesday with representatives of Malawi, with a view to strengthening tourism in the Lake Niassa region, located in northern Mozambique.

It is worth recalling that, in December 2022, Minister Materula stated that the implementation of the e-Visa could result in the arrival of millions of tourists in the country. This measure, together with other government initiatives, has as its main aim to increase tourist flows and boost the development of the sector in Mozambique, bringing prosperity and progress to the nation.
