Showing fashion trends and the latest collections from various shops and designers was one of the aims of Moda Baía 2022, which had been planned for four years by Baía Mall, in partnership with DDB Moçambique. It consisted of three days of unprecedented shows, on 17, 18 and 19 September this year. And it is in this month that the intention is for Moda Baía to be held regularly, becoming an annual event. To better achieve this goal, Baía Mall teamed up with DDB Moçambique, which has vast experience built up over 18 years of Mozambique Fashion Week.
“Besides showcasing shops’ new collections and international trends, we intend to bring together the creativity, knowledge and cultural development of Mozambicans.” – Lisié Champier, of the Moda Baía 2022 organising team
As a way of making an effective contribution to the development of the fashion industry in the country, one of the aims of the initiative is for Moda Baía to be a networking point for different players. “We want to offer the best to our customers, tenants and partners,” said Lisié Champier, of the event’s organising team. As a shopping centre is a place frequented by people seeking answers to their needs, Moda Baía acts as an influencer. It is, therefore, a strategic point, a place where national designers can display their creativity.
“At the moment, we have an average of ten thousand people a day, and, of course, Saturday is the busiest day, when we reach approximately sixteen thousand people,” said Lisié, illustrating the capacity to give greater visibility to national artists. “Baía Mall is proud to finally be able to take this step that has been planned for four years,” said Lisié Champier, who is in charge of the event. “Besides showcasing shops’ new collections and international trends, we intend to bring together the creativity, knowledge and cultural development of Mozambicans,” she stressed. Lisié Champier believes that the city of Maputo and the country need to tell their story in their own space. “We intend to support even more by creating space for young talents to display their artistic work and by encouraging innovation, recycling and protection of the environment,” she concluded.
