Mozambique Fashion Week, the country’s leading fashion event, held its 19th edition from 4 to 10 December, at the Port of Maputo, consolidating its place as a prominent stage for more than 100 national and 14 international designers. This year it became a manifesto of sustainable creativity and the promotion of Mozambican talent.
Under the theme “Kings and Queens: the Throne is Yours”, the event unfolded as a true ode to fashion in which the collections stood out not only for their innovative design, but also for their strong connection to Mozambique’s cultural roots.
Vasco Rocha, Managing Director of DDB Moçambique, the company that organises the event, stressed the importance of Mozambique Fashion Week as a journey of transformation and passion. According to Vasco, “this event goes beyond the conventional boundaries of fashion. It is a space that tells the story of a nation in constant evolution and struggle. Fashion here transcends the idea of simply skilfully sewn fabrics; it is a mirror of our entrepreneurial spirit and of education, and a symbol of our innovation and inclusion”.
Tânia Oliveira, representative of Absa Bank Moçambique, the main sponsor of the event, shared a similar sentiment. Tânia highlighted the crucial role of Mozambique Fashion Week in the growth of the fashion industry in Mozambique, creating unique and sustainable opportunities for those involved in the fashion ecosystem.
Through fashion, stories were told, challenges overcome and a promising future for the fashion industry in Mozambique was mapped out. With eyes on the future, the next edition is eagerly awaited, and promises to keep raising Mozambique’s name on the global fashion scene.
