The National Migration Service (SENAMI) has announced the repatriation of 31 people who tried to enter Mozambique illegally through Maputo International Airport. Coming from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Ethiopia, the individuals were prevented from remaining in the territory for failing to meet the legal requirements.

Cláudia dos Santos, spokeswoman for SENAMI, revealed that the immigrants did not present essential documents, such as valid passports, return tickets and proof of means of subsistence. During inspection procedures carried out at the weekend, it was found that the foreigners were not on the disembarkation lists, and also had no clear information about accommodation or the purpose of the trip.

“They intended to use Mozambique as a corridor to reach South Africa, but without meeting the legal requirements, so they were refused entry to the country”, explained Cláudia dos Santos.
