The pan-African platform Africa50 signed a set of agreements with Mozambique in Maputo on Wednesday to support the construction of three high-voltage electricity transmission lines, with a capacity of more than 800 kilovolts. This strategic partnership aims to accelerate the national Energy for All programme, with a target set for 2030.

Besides strengthening energy infrastructure, Africa50’s support will extend to other areas fundamental to the country’s development, namely digital transformation and the implementation of one-stop border posts, a model that facilitates trade and mobility through integrated management at border crossings.

During the opening ceremony of the Africa50 General Assembly, taking place in the Mozambican capital, the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, stressed the importance of ensuring stable and easily accessible energy as a fundamental pillar of economic progress.

“African industrialisation will only be possible with reliable and affordable energy, hence the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with our national energy company, EDM”, said the Head of State, highlighting the government’s commitment to making Mozambique a hub of industrial transformation.

The collaboration now formalised between the Mozambican State and the Africa50 consortium represents a concrete step towards the modernisation of the national electricity grid and regional integration in key sectors of the economy and governance.
