Mozambique is present at Africa's Travel Indaba 2024, which began on Monday in Durban, South Africa. The event, which brings together 26 African nations, including newcomers such as Burkina Faso, Guinea-Conakry and Eritrea, promises to be a milestone in the promotion of tourism on the continent.
This year the fair presents 344 tourism products, up from 301 the previous year, according to information released by South Africa's Ministry of Tourism. A total of 1,030 African exhibitors are present, with the exhibition running until next Thursday.
The importance of tourism as an economic driver is a keynote of the event, especially considering the recent challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. In this context, South Africa, the host of the fair, will highlight efforts to recover the sector.
The Mozambican delegation includes Mozambique's ambassador to South Africa, Maria Manuela Lucas, who will also take part in a dialogue of the continent's tourism ministers. This meeting aims to share ideas and strategies for strengthening tourism as a pillar of African economic development.
The opening ceremony, scheduled for tomorrow, will be chaired by South Africa's Minister of Tourism, Patrice De Lille, and the local authorities assure that every measure has been taken to ensure that the event runs safely and in an orderly fashion.
