The Mozambique Revenue Authority has taken a firm step in modernising customs control by distributing 63 mobile phones to inspection teams, equipped with a new electronic tracking system called the “insight system”. This initiative aims to combat the counterfeiting of products, especially alcoholic drinks, through digital verification of the tax control stamp.
In an official statement, the Revenue Authority (AT) explains that the system was designed to quickly identify illegalities, such as forged stamps or stamps applied to goods not registered as imported. The use of the mobile phone as the main verification tool marks a significant change in how tax officers operate in the field.
Miguel Nhane, coordinator of the Alcoholic Drinks and Manufactured Tobacco Stamping Unit, stresses that this action is part of the technological upgrade of the stamping system, which now also includes a new generation of digital stamps. “There are situations in which stamps appear on the market whose corresponding goods have not been imported”, he warned, reiterating the importance of more effective inspection to curb illicit practices.
This strengthening of electronic control aims to consolidate the fight against tax fraud and increase confidence in the Mozambican customs system.
