The government plans to set up an electric bus assembly factory in the country by 2024, with the aim of easing the crisis in the public passenger transport sector, which has affected the main urban centres in recent years. The information was released by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, during a meeting in Maputo with a Japanese business delegation led by Japan's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

According to Rádio Moçambique, Mateus Magala pointed out that the country has the resources to produce electric batteries; however, it needs partners and entrepreneurs who will contribute to realising this ambition. Establishing this factory could be a crucial step towards improving urban mobility and quality of life in the country's urban centres, as well as boosting sustainable development and the local economy.

The meeting between the Minister of Transport and Communications and the Japanese delegation marks an important step in the negotiations and the search for strategic partners to implement this project, which aims not only to meet public transport needs but also to contribute to reducing polluting gas emissions through the use of electric vehicles.
