In the heart of the Zimpeto neighbourhood, the Municipal Library, a symbol of knowledge and social inclusion, is reborn at the hands of Millennium bim. After a period of closure that left a void in the community’s daily educational life, the space was refurbished and returned to the public on 17 October, in a gesture that combines social responsibility with strategic vision for the future.

The reopening ceremony was attended by the Councillor for Education, Culture and Sport of the Maputo Municipal Council, Osvaldo Faquir, representing the Mayor. Representatives of Millennium bim, local authorities and community members were also present, in an atmosphere that reflected the symbolic and practical value of the initiative.

Located about three kilometres from the Wholesale Market and near a Millennium bim branch, the Library was originally inaugurated in 2008. Since then, it has become a favoured meeting place for students, families and book lovers, welcoming an average of 200 visitors a month. The interruption of its activity therefore represented a keenly felt loss in access to educational resources and cultural enjoyment.

Aware of the importance of this space, Millennium bim decided to go ahead with refurbishment works, in an investment within its Corporate Social Responsibility programme “Mais Moçambique pra Mim”. The renovation of the Library aims not only to restore its functionality, but also to project it as a modern and inspiring space.

“With this Library we want to give the young people of Zimpeto a space that awakens curiosity, encourages reading and promotes knowledge. More than a building, it is an open door to the future, because we believe that education is the true foundation of Mozambique’s progress.” — Miguel Crispim, Southern Coordinating Director of Millennium bim

This gesture is also part of the celebrations of Millennium bim’s 30 years of activity, whose trajectory has been marked by a consistent commitment to human and social development. Since 2006, the bank has invested in structural projects in the areas of education, health, culture, sport and the environment — pillars that shape an inclusive and lasting vision for the country.
