In an operation that marks a significant advance in the fight against drug trafficking in Nampula province, the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) managed to intercept and seize around 500 kilograms of cannabis sativa. The announcement of this seizure was made on Tuesday, reflecting the authorities' continued commitment to dismantling the drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
The operation, which culminated in the seizure of this substantial quantity of drugs, took place in the administrative post of Matibane, in Mossuril district, where the cannabis sativa was found abandoned in a boat. In addition to the drugs, two pistols and 40 rounds of ammunition were also found, showing the possible link between the case and organised criminal activity.
SERNIC in Nampula, which carried out this operation, is currently investigating the origin of both the drugs and the weapons seized, in an attempt to uncover the networks behind drug trafficking and illegal possession of weapons in the province. This investigation also aims to identify and hold accountable the individuals involved in these illicit activities.
This blow to drug trafficking in Nampula not only represents a turning point in the fight against organised crime in the region but also reinforces the determination of the Mozambican authorities to guarantee public safety and order. SERNIC's action reflects the State's commitment to combating all forms of crime, thereby protecting local communities from the harmful effects associated with drug trafficking and armed violence.
The community now awaits the results of the ongoing investigations, anticipating a positive impact on reducing crime in the province and on strengthening local peace and security. This event underlines the importance of vigilance and concerted action among the different security forces in eradicating drug trafficking and organised crime in Mozambique.
