The city of Maputo is hosting, on 2 and 3 May, an important regional workshop focused on reviewing and evaluating national cultural policies in Africa. Organised by the Observatory of Cultural Policies in Africa (OCPA) with the support of UNESCO, the event will take place at the Hotel Tivoli and will bring together experts from a number of African nations.
The main aim of this workshop is to provide a comprehensive platform for reviewing the existing guidelines on the design and evaluation of cultural policies on the continent. New methodological guidance and recommendations will be discussed, aimed not only at improving current policies but also at promoting a rich exchange on regional experiences and recent initiatives in the cultural field.
The session stands out as a multidisciplinary meeting that will be attended by professionals from the Arts, Culture and Cultural Heritage sectors from countries such as Mozambique, Angola, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Morocco and Zimbabwe. This meeting is crucial for strengthening cultural policies as pillars of the public good and highlighting their role in fostering social and economic transformation.
The workshop will also see the participation of several key institutions, including the National Commission for UNESCO in Mozambique, the Mozambican Federation of Cultural and Creative Industries (FEMIC), the Institute for Socio-Cultural Research (ARPAC), and the Centre for African Studies, reinforcing the commitment to collaboration among the various players in the cultural sector.
