There are various reasons that make us change the course of our path; sometimes it is work, sometimes family, and sometimes love. Januário Faustino decided to leave Maputo six years ago because he did not want to keep up a long-distance relationship. The solution was to head for Cologne, in Germany, to join his girlfriend. Six years later, this IT technician tells us about his experience.
The truth, in fact, is that Januário Faustino wanted to invest in his training. A young IT specialist, he had already worked at some national companies, but felt that the knowledge he had until then was not enough, especially because of the constant innovation and demands of the sector. So the destination ended up being Germany, because his girlfriend already lived there and both knew they did not want to be apart.

Januário Faustino admits that in the field of Technology it is very hard to keep up with every development,
but says that it is precisely this challenge that keeps him constantly seeking further training.

Germany was not the first choice. Like any story, this IT specialist's path had different episodes. Midway through his journey, he spent a year in Portugal, and then returned to Mozambique for the same length of time, to ease his longing for his homeland, the Land of Good People.

“Actually, I left to train, and I had no plans to live in Europe, but with my girlfriend being in Cologne, we decided not to have a long-distance relationship,” Januário tells us.

Aware that it was important to keep learning constantly, Januário admits that in the field of Technology it is very hard to keep up with every development, but says that it is precisely this challenge that keeps him constantly seeking further training or taking part in workshops, which is “not easy for the Mozambican employer to understand,” he tells us.

Confident in the power of technology and in the added value that exchanges of experience can bring, Januário Faustino reveals “his most beautiful project”, the one that will have an impact on the social growth of his homeland. The IT specialist holds on to the dream he shares with us: “I would like to build a community school right where I was born, because I believe that everyone who can read and write should have a chance in this life, otherwise the doors will be closed.”
