Matola Provincial Hospital has, since Thursday (2nd), had new wheelchairs for the internal support of its patients, in an initiative promoted by Banco Comercial e de Investimentos (BCI) that aims to strengthen the care provided at this health facility in Maputo province.
The handover ceremony was attended by the director of the Provincial Health Service, Iolanda Tchamo, who officially received the donation, in the presence of health professionals and BCI representatives.
The initiative is part of a series of social actions the bank is carrying out to mark its 30th anniversary in Mozambique, celebrating the milestone through projects supporting institutions and communities in various regions of the country.
Representing BCI, the bank's Social Responsibility director, Virgínia Albasini, stressed that the donation of wheelchairs reflects the bank's lasting commitment to social responsibility. According to her, the initiative reflects the conviction that "banking must go beyond the financial sphere, actively contributing to the well-being of communities and to strengthening the social fabric of our country".
She added that this gesture of solidarity delivers on a broader goal, by promoting inclusion, reinforcing human dignity and making it easier for citizens who depend on this equipment to access healthcare and improve their quality of life.
On the occasion, the director of the Provincial Health Service, Iolanda Tchamo, speaking on behalf of the Council of Provincial State Representation Services, expressed gratitude for the support provided. In her view, the donation will help strengthen the capacity of health services to deliver more humane care, ensuring better conditions of comfort, mobility and safety for the patients who turn to Matola Provincial Hospital every day.
With this action, BCI once again affirms its role as a partner in national development, committing to initiatives with social impact that seek to improve communities' living conditions and contribute to a more inclusive, resilient and healthy Mozambique.
The wheelchairs given to Matola Provincial Hospital are part of a batch of 110 units that the bank is distributing to referral hospitals across the country. In parallel, a further 55 wheelchairs will go to individual beneficiaries, widening the reach of this solidarity initiative and providing greater mobility and a better quality of life to citizens in situations of greater vulnerability.
