In a significant boost to its treatment capacity, Maputo Central Hospital (HCM) welcomed the arrival of two more haemodialysis machines, a gesture of generosity from the company Pluribus Internacional. This equipment, crucial in the treatment of patients with kidney failure, both acute and chronic, promises to ease the daily lives of many who depend on this vital therapy for their survival.
With this new addition, the HCM raises to 16 the total number of haemodialysis machines available for use, thus expanding its capacity to treat patients suffering from serious kidney conditions. According to the nephrologist Elsa Chissico, this increase will directly benefit 77 patients who, until then, had depended on regular treatment, significantly easing the waiting lists and the pressure on existing services.
However, despite this progress, demand for haemodialysis treatment continues to exceed the available supply. Dr Chissico was keen to stress the urgency of acquiring more machines, in order to meet the growing number of patients waiting for the chance to begin their treatment, a reality that mirrors the challenges facing the health sector in Mozambique in combating kidney failure.
Pluribus Internacional, recognised for its work in the field of haemodialysis, has shown through this donation its commitment to social responsibility and the well-being of Mozambican patients. This act of solidarity not only helps to improve the quality of life of those suffering from kidney failure but also strengthens the country's health infrastructure, allowing broader access to essential treatments.
This gesture is a reminder of the importance of collaboration between the public sector and private entities in improving health services in Mozambique, a partnership that is proving increasingly vital in ensuring an effective response to the population's medical needs.
