Millennium bim announced this week its support for the complete rehabilitation of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Maputo Central Hospital (HCM), the country's largest and most important hospital facility, which receives thousands of patients from all of Mozambique's provinces.

The intervention, part of the Corporate Social Responsibility programme “Mais Moçambique Pra Mim”, and included in the celebrations of the bank's 30 years in Mozambique, aims to significantly strengthen HCM's capacity to respond, especially in the treatment of critically ill children.

In an official statement, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Millennium bim, Rui Pedro, stressed that “the rehabilitation of HCM's Paediatric Intensive Care Unit represents a concrete step in our commitment to ensuring that Mozambican children have access to quality medical care, especially in critical situations”.

Marking three decades in the country, Rui Pedro added: “We want our journey to translate into actions with real impact. That is why we are here today: to reiterate Millennium bim's determination to continue contributing actively to improving child health conditions in the country”.

The project involves the complete renovation of key spaces, such as the Treatment Room, the Intensive Care Room and the Inpatient Rooms. The common areas and the support facilities for health professionals will also be refurbished.

Besides the structural rehabilitation, the plan includes functional changes with a direct impact on the quality of the service provided: reorganisation of triage flows, reduction of the risk of cross-contamination and installation of hospital screens, to ensure greater privacy, safety and dignity in the care of children.

“This specific support is one of the ways Millennium bim chooses to celebrate its 30 years: by helping to create a more dignified and safer space for the children and the health professionals who pass through HCM's paediatric emergency department every day”, concluded Rui Pedro.
