The Mozambican Government is to launch the Mutual Guarantee Fund, a financial support line valued at 40 million US dollars, designed to make it easier for new investors who lack the traditional guarantees required by the banks to obtain credit.

The announcement will be made as part of Exporters’ Day, an event marking the start of the 60th edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM 2025), which will take place at the Ricatla International Fair and Exhibition Centre, in the district of Marracuene, Maputo province.

Created in 2023 under the Economic Acceleration Measures Package (PAE), the Fund addresses one of the greatest barriers faced by Mozambican small and medium-sized enterprises: limited and costly access to finance. The mechanism will allow commercial banks to offer credit with less demanding guarantee requirements, boosting business growth in key sectors.

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Carla Louveira, says that more than 15,000 new businesses could benefit from the Fund, which will be operated through three national banks. The launch ceremony will be attended by the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo.

The measure covers strategic areas such as agriculture, fish farming, agricultural marketing and processing, tourism and housing – sectors identified as engines of more inclusive and sustainable economic development. Access to finance at more affordable interest rates could thus mark a significant turning point in the vitality of Mozambique’s business fabric.
