Jennifer "Chude" Mondlane, the elder of the two daughters of Frelimo founder Eduardo Mondlane, died in the early hours of this Monday, 24 June 2024, aged 66, after an illness. Chude Mondlane was in a clinic in Morningside, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Of the three children of the Mondlane couple (Eduardo, Chude and Nyelete), Chude was the only one who did not become involved in politics or business, opting instead for an artistic career. She spent her life between Mozambique, South Africa and the United States of America, devoting herself to music as a singer, performance artist and music promoter. She developed much of her professional career in Mozambique, where she made a significant contribution to the music industry.

Chude Mondlane was featured in issue no. 46 of Xonguila magazine, where she shared stories of her life and career. In this interview, Chude recounted her artistic and personal journey, from her childhood in Dar es Salaam to her performances on the world's great stages. Xonguila described how the artist managed to unite dance, music and a life devoted to promoting Mozambican culture.
The Xonguila team deeply regrets her passing, recognising the enormous loss it represents for Mozambican culture and music. Chude Mondlane leaves an important legacy, having always promoted the country's art and culture.
