The Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) has approved financing of almost 5 billion dollars for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Mozambique, a decisive step towards advancing this major energy infrastructure led by TotalEnergies.
The decision reinforces international confidence in Mozambique's energy potential and unlocks one of the largest foreign investments in the country. The American financing joins the support of the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, whose approvals are also expected shortly, according to the Minister of Energy, Estêvão Pale.
With the participation of major global companies such as TotalEnergies (26.5%) and Japan's Mitsui, the LNG project puts Mozambique on the path to becoming one of the region's largest gas producers. Operations had been temporarily suspended, but recent months have been marked by significant progress, including the final preparations for the resumption of works.
The confirmation of the financing is a positive sign for the Mozambican economy, bringing new opportunities for jobs, industrial growth and infrastructure development. As well as guaranteeing important revenues for the country, the project will help to consolidate Mozambique as a strategic player in the global energy market.
