Daúto Faquirá, the renowned coach from the province of Inhambane, in Mozambique, will this month take over as head coach of Clube Ferroviário da Beira, the current national football champion of Mozambique. The appointment comes with the promise of ushering in an era of more consistent success for the club, which celebrates its centenary this year. Faquirá, with a distinguished career in Portugal and a significant spell in Angola, brings with him the expectation of revitalising the club and leaving a lasting legacy.
The coach, who has already managed teams such as Estrela da Amadora, Vitória de Setúbal, Torreense and Sporting da Covilhã in Portugal, and the 1.º de Agosto side in Angola, expressed his enthusiasm and commitment to this new challenge. "The aim is to retain the title and create conditions for the club to win more often, as well as to contribute to the growth of football in Mozambique", said Faquirá.
This opportunity marks Faquirá's return to the country where he was born, a decision influenced by the recent loss of his father and by the wish to honour his legacy. "I am going to the country that saw me born, the country I love, which is my homeland, and I hope to contribute in some way to Mozambican football", the coach said, showing his emotional bond with Mozambique.
Under Faquirá's guidance, Ferroviário da Beira, which has won the national championship only twice and the Mozambique Cup on four occasions, hopes not only to celebrate its centenary successfully but also to begin a chapter full of triumphs and glory in Mozambican football. The coach replaces fellow Portuguese Hélder Duarte, who led the club to its second championship title in the 2023 season. "I will find a club that is national champion, a club that means a great deal to a region. There is a strong sense of identity among the people with the club", Faquirá concluded, stressing the importance of Ferroviário da Beira to the local community.
