Maputo, 14 October 2026 – CoWork Lab officially opened its new Business Centre yesterday, 13 October, at Rua 1307, No. 150, in Sommerschield. The ceremony brought together around 180 guests, including business leaders, clients, partners and institutional representatives. With this opening, CoWork Lab now operates seven locations in Maputo and marks 14 years of activity in Mozambique.

An afternoon of celebration and new connections

The event took place between 5 pm and 8 pm, beginning with a welcome reception accompanied by live music from Lourenço Junior.

The official ceremony was hosted by master of ceremonies Nápula Alberto and featured speeches by Pedro Ferreira, Managing Director of CoWork Lab; Cezerilo Matuce, Member of the Management Committee of TMCEL; Edilson Madime, Managing Director of SOGIMO; and Patrícia Costa, Visual Artist.

At 6 pm, Eng. Mahomed Mussá, Chairman of the Management Board of TMCEL, and Pedro Ferreira, Managing Director of CoWork Lab, cut the ribbon. This was followed by a toast and the signing of the visitors' book.

Artist Patrícia Costa presented her photographic collection Kintsugi, exhibited in the new space. The evening concluded with an open house, giving guests the opportunity to explore the facilities, exchange ideas and create new business opportunities.

A building with history, open to the city

The new Business Centre occupies a building that housed a training institute between 1991 and 2018. The original inauguration plaque has been preserved as a tribute to the building's past.

The centre offers private offices, meeting rooms, a conference room accommodating more than 100 people, lounges for working and networking, and virtual office services. Reception, internet access, cleaning, 24-hour security, water, electricity and photocopying facilities are among the services included at the premises.

The centre has been designed as a space open to the community. CoWork Lab will set aside dates and spaces for entrepreneurs and artists to showcase their work, beginning with the exhibition “Kintsugi: Where Cracks Become Light”.

14 years of supporting entrepreneurship in Mozambique

CoWork Lab opened its first location in Maputo in 2012. Since then, it has grown alongside its clients, opening new centres in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021, in areas including Bairro Central, Sommerschield and Triunfo.

Today, CoWork Lab operates seven business centres in Maputo and one in Portugal. Each is represented by one of the eight lines in the brand's logo.

Since its foundation, the company has supported Mozambique's entrepreneurial ecosystem, offering flexible solutions to young entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Its services also include CoWork Lab Suites, providing accommodation for professionals in Maputo.

“The starting point for your business”

“Fourteen years ago, we opened a small space with a simple idea: to give entrepreneurs a place to start. Today, seeing around 180 people gathered at this new centre shows just how much that idea has grown alongside our clients and partners,” said Pedro Ferreira, Managing Director of CoWork Lab.

“This new centre is a place to work, create and collaborate. We want it to be a starting point for new businesses and a showcase for Mozambique's talent. Here, every connection counts.”
