On 14 June, in an atmosphere of great expectation, Brazil's ambassador to Mozambique, Ademar Seabra da Cruz Júnior, firmly demonstrated Brazil's willingness to expand cooperation in the areas of agriculture, energy and the pharmaceutical industry.
The diplomat highlighted Mozambique's potential: its fertile lands, covering about 10% more territory than Brazil's, present an opportunity for agricultural expansion. Although fertile, only a small portion of these lands is actually being used. In this context, Júnior compared the situation with Brazil's remarkable progress in family and subsistence farming, an evolution that follows the productive changes seen in other emerging countries. Júnior stressed Brazil's intention to join Mozambique in exploiting these lands more intensively, emphasising the superiority of Mozambican soil in terms of fertility and composition.
As for the pharmaceutical sector, still to be fully exploited, the Brazilian ambassador highlighted Mozambique's latent potential and Brazil's willingness to broaden cooperation in this area, given that a formal request to that effect already exists.
In tourism, Júnior pointed out that Brazil has much to learn from Mozambique, a country that has shown impressive and fascinating progress in this sector.
The issue of decarbonisation, as a crucial part of the fight against climate change and global warming, was also a topic highlighted by the ambassador. It was noted that the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy sources is a global and gradual process, which could be advantageous for Mozambique, given the various oil projects the country has.
According to information provided by Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 2021 the value of Mozambique's imports from Brazil amounted to 33.5 million US dollars, representing 0.5% of Mozambique's total imports. The report indicates that Mozambique imported a variety of products from Brazil, including mineral fuels, mineral oils, products of their distillation, mineral waxes, animal or vegetable fats and oils, food preparations based on fats, waxes of animal or vegetable origin, and also meat and edible offal.
This information reinforces the idea that the ties between these two sister nations continue to grow stronger, with prospects of increasingly intense and productive cooperation in various sectors
