Chinese businessmen plan to set up a sesame processing and export centre in Chongoene, Gaza, targeting Hubei Province in China. The information emerged during a visit by a Chinese delegation to Xai-Xai, accompanied by the Vice Governor of Hubei. This project will initially include support in supplying quality seeds and transferring sesame production technology, a crop of high commercial value.
Committing to buy the entire sesame crop, the businessmen asked the Gaza government to expand the crop among local producers. In response, the Governor of Gaza, Margarida Mapandzene Chongo, assured them that efforts are already under way to expand sesame cultivation in the region, noting that, this year alone, more than three hundred hectares are being prepared for this purpose.
This cooperation strengthens the existing relations between Gaza and Hubei, which include the transfer of technology in rice production and processing. The guarantee of a Chinese market could significantly boost the local economy, bringing new opportunities and development to the Gaza region.
