In a symbolic gesture of closeness to the public, Mozambique Ports and Railways (CFM) has decided to offer free journeys on passenger trains for three consecutive days – 7, 8 and 9 July – as part of the celebrations of its 130th anniversary.

The measure applies to the railway lines of the country’s South and Centre regions, namely Ressano Garcia, Goba and Limpopo (South), as well as Sena, Machipanda and Marromeu (Centre). All passengers can benefit from the offer, provided the trains’ capacity limits are respected.

The anniversary marks the inaugural date of the company’s operations, on 8 July 1895, when the railway link was completed between what was then Lourenço Marques – today Maputo – and the South African city of Transvaal, now Pretoria. A milestone of regional integration and economic development that remains symbolic for Mozambique.

The initiative aims not only to pay tribute to the institution’s historic legacy but also to reinforce the role of the railways as a pillar of mobility and social cohesion.
