In the first six months of this year, the market capitalisation of the Mozambique Stock Exchange (BVM) reached a total of 2,718 million dollars (2,422 million euros), reflecting an increase of almost 5% in just three months.

The official figures, recently compiled and published, reveal that market capitalisation, that is, the approximate market value of companies and securities up to the end of the second quarter (June), now represents 24.37% of Mozambique's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This figure compares with approximately 2,596 million dollars (2,313 million euros) up to March and 2,021 million dollars (1,801 million euros) in the corresponding period of June 2022.

The BVM ended the second quarter with the same composition of 13 companies and 66 listed securities, a number unchanged from the previous quarter. However, this total is higher than last year's, when 11 companies and 54 securities were listed.

Between April and June, transactions on the BVM totalled 215.98 million dollars (191.5 million euros). In the first quarter, this volume was 106.27 million dollars (94.5 million euros), while in the second quarter of 2022, the volume traded was approximately 101 million dollars (89.9 million euros).

The companies listed on the BVM include some of the country's most important economic entities, such as Companhia Moçambicana de Hidrocarbonetos, Cervejas de Moçambique, Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa, Arko Seguros and Rede Viária de Moçambique, among others.

This growth in market capitalisation is seen as a positive indicator for the Mozambican economy and reflects investors' activity and positive perception of the country's financial market.
