In an era in which the debate on gender equality plays an increasingly central role in the global social and business fabric, initiatives such as "Be Like a Woman" emerge not only as examples of progress, but also as tangible testimonies of change. The result of a collaboration between Ernst & Young Moçambique and New Faces New Voices, the programme concluded its first cycle at the end of February, marking the start of a new era for women in Mozambique in the development of leadership and entrepreneurship skills.
The essence of this programme lies in its ability to shape female leadership, leveraging the participants' careers and businesses through a well-crafted compendium of masterclasses, mentoring and a network of vital resources, led by world-renowned experts. The culmination of this journey was celebrated at a closing and awards event that not only honoured the achievements of these courageous women, but also underlined the programme's profound impact on their professional and personal lives.

The distinguished presence of Graça Machel, an unmissable voice in social activism, reiterated the importance of initiatives such as "Be Like a Woman" in the fight for gender equality and women's empowerment. Machel, with her characteristic eloquence, highlighted the urgency of greater female representation in leadership positions, not only in Mozambique but across the African continent, promising continued support for efforts in this direction.

Paulo Reis, Office Managing Partner of EY Mozambique, emphasised the company's vision of building a better business world, anchored in inclusion and social equity. The "Be Like a Woman" programme reflects this commitment, having been designed to support ambitious and experienced women in climbing the career ladder and expanding their businesses sustainably. The closing event also served as a stage for the announcement of a new initiative, "Be Like a Woman, Gives Back", which aims to perpetuate the cycle of social transformation, involving the participants in an effort to mentor younger women. Glayds Gande, EY Senior Manager and one of the programme's mentors, highlighted the multiplier effect of "Be Like a Woman", not only among the direct participants, but also through their networks of influence and the general public. With an effective communication strategy, the programme managed to reach more than three million people, spreading leadership and business management tools throughout the community.

Alcinda Licussa, Human Resources Director at Ecobank and winner of the programme's first edition, sees this recognition as a personal milestone, but also as a call to action to promote a more inclusive business environment for women in Mozambique.

Finally, Henriqueta Hunguana, of New Faces New Voices, stressed the aim of expanding the programme's reach by bringing more participants and partner institutions on board. The signing of a memorandum with Girl Move at the closing event symbolises this desire to accelerate women's path to leadership and financial independence.

"Be Like a Woman" is not just an initiative; it is a movement, a call to action for everyone who believes in a more equal world. Ernst & Young Moçambique and New Faces New Voices reaffirm their commitment to gender equality and the economic empowerment of women, promising to continue their mission of social transformation in Mozambique and beyond.
