GREPOC, the body responsible for recovery after cyclones in Mozambique, has been granted 100 million dollars to rehabilitate or rebuild twenty-one thousand homes. This sum is part of the total contribution of 700 million dollars guaranteed by international cooperation partners in the housing sector.

The information was released on Wednesday in Maputo by Luís Mandlate, executive head of GREPOC, at an event on housing, land and property in the context of displacement caused by climate change and disasters in Mozambique.

Luís Mandlate explained that, in the education sector, 4,000 classrooms and approximately one thousand nine hundred residences were affected.

As regards roads, traffic has been restored on the four kilometres that were damaged. Mandlate also mentioned the intention to increase the resilience of social infrastructure to adverse weather events, with the aim of reducing human and material losses.
