Ten farmers in the district of Mossurize, in Manica province, have received the same number of tractors under the MozRural programme, which aims to strengthen the family farming sector by increasing output and productivity.
The initiative is part of efforts to meet the targets of the current farming season, which provides for the cultivation of about 215,000 hectares with an expected harvest of more than 600,000 tonnes of various crops.
The new equipment is intended, essentially, for women and young farmers, who will be expected to contribute 15% of the purchase cost of each tractor – which is worth around three million five hundred thousand meticais. This contribution aims to ensure the direct involvement of the beneficiaries, promoting the sustainability of the investment.
With this new batch, the total number of tractors distributed in Mossurize under MozRural rises to 21, a programme that has already approved 90 projects in all the districts of Manica province. Most of these initiatives are directed at agricultural mechanisation, namely the purchase of tractors and their complementary equipment.
The handover of the tractors represents more than technical support: it is a concrete step in the modernisation of the agricultural sector and in the active inclusion of vulnerable groups, such as young people and women, in the rural economy.
