Maputo - A new era in the processing of documents in Mozambique is about to begin. In the first quarter of next year, the trial phase of the Digital Certification and Authentication System will begin, a technological milestone that promises to revolutionise the way citizens interact with official documents.

This innovation was announced during the third edition of the National Internet Governance Forum – 2023 (FGIM-2023), held in Maputo. Under the theme "For an Accessible, Inclusive, Secure and Resilient Internet", the event brought together experts and authorities in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), focusing on topics such as Cybersecurity and Digital Certification.

The new system will allow citizens to sign and process documents electronically, guaranteeing greater security and credibility in the process. To this end, prior registration will be required, similar to the process of issuing the Identity Card (BI), giving the citizen a unique electronic identity.

This advance, as explained by João Alguineiro, a representative of the Finance Systems Development Centre (CEDSIF), will significantly simplify citizens' lives. The ability to carry out document operations online, without the need to travel in person, represents a notable evolution in the delivery of public and private services in the country.

FGIM-2023, held in a hybrid format, emphasised the importance of adapting internet governance policies and strategies to current needs, including discussion of Artificial Intelligence and the legal and regulatory framework for ICT in Mozambique.

This new phase in the handling of digital documents in Mozambique is a crucial step towards a more integrated and digital future, in line with global trends and the specific needs of the Mozambican people.
