United Bank for Africa (UBA) reinforced its commitment to developing young talent and African leadership by training more than 700 young professionals through its Graduate Management Accelerated Programme (GMAP), a strategic initiative aimed at preparing the continent's next generation of leaders. The graduation ceremony took place on 9 April 2026, bringing together participants from the various African countries where the bank operates. The event was attended by senior leaders of the institution, including the Chairman of the Board, Tony Elumelu, who highlighted the transformative role of young people in Africa's economic future.
An investment in Africa's future
GMAP has established itself as one of the leading talent development programmes in the African financial sector. Since its creation, it has already trained more than 4,000 professionals, providing intensive training, mentoring with senior leaders and practical experience in the banking sector.
Lasting six months, the programme combines classroom learning, digital simulations, practical activities and direct guidance from executives, preparing participants to take on strategic roles in innovation, customer experience and sustainability.
Training leaders with purpose
During the event, the new graduates were challenged to take an active role in transforming the financial sector and in the continent's economic development. According to the bank's leadership, the participants represent not just new employees but future innovators, leaders and ambassadors of UBA's vision. The programme reflects the bank's view that Africa's growth depends directly on empowering young talent, capable of driving sustainable change and creating a positive impact in their communities.
UBA and the commitment to human development
With a presence in more than 20 African countries and in strategic international markets, UBA continues to position itself as an institution that goes beyond financial services, investing consistently in human capital as an engine of growth and inclusion.
